A real maze of brass tubing from Mirafone brand Tuba… I, much to the disapproval of the band director, loved bringing my camera EVERYWHERE when I was in college... and that definitely included all band functions! It didn't matter if it was a rehearsal, private practice time, or even a concert - I always had a camera... ALWAYS!
I think one of the biggest contributing factors to my life-long love affair with instrumental music (other than the joy of making music) is the design of the instruments themselves. In some cases (no music joke intended), the instruments we know and play today are the result of millennia of research, development, and craft. I have always marveled at the construction and design of brass instruments in particular. Sitting next to tubas and tuba players for so long, this picture was an inevitable!
On the visual side, this can be seen as an exercise in contrast or capturing reflective surfaces. However, after spending hours studying the tubing and connections within the structure of brass instruments, this image, for me, holds a lot of personal significance and interest.
